Jabu: NZ Alumni Convention will deal with serious issues by Beverly Kho

KUCHING - The forthcoming New Zealand Alumni Convention (NZAC) 2004 represents an apportunity for all participants to look at the world through different eyes and minds, said Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Alfred Jabu.

Jabu was met during a visit by members of the NZAC 2004 organising committee which were represented by Tan Sri Datu Amar Dr Hj Hamid Bugo, the organising chairman of NZAC 2004, Roger Chan, Director of the NZAC Centre, Tuan Hj Zaidi K Zaini, President of the Sarawak New Zealand Graduates Association and Alex Ting, Chairman of the Malaysia New Zealand Business Council (Sarawak).

"The convention will deal with serious issues and give opportunities for delegates from all over the world the chance to discover more of Sarawak," said Jabu, who is also the vice-patron for NZAC 2004.

"We expect no less than 50 delegates including Vice-Chancellors from Universities in New Zealand," Jabu said confidently. "This is part of the 500 delegates expected from around the world."

To date registration have been received from more than 10 countries.

Meanwhile, Bugo said that the event represented a "big opportunity to meet international people and discuss international issues.

Speakers to look out for include the Honourable Austin Mitchell, a United Kingdom Member of Parliament who will be speaking on "The Old Grey Kiwi Ain't What She Used To be"; Tachi Kiuchi, Chairman and CEO Emeritus of Mitsubishi Electric America who will present "The (Business) Lessons I Learned In The Rainforest" and Dr David Given, Botanical Services Curator for the Christchurch City Council on "Is Our World Too Small for Biological Diversity?"
