WELLINGTON: All couples of migrants will now be treated the same under new
immigration rules announced yesterday by New. Zealand Immigration Minister
Dianne Dalziel.
It will not matter whether the couple are married or not, or whether they are
homosexual or heterosexual.
Under the rules all couples will have to prove they have been living together in
a genuine and stable partnership for 12 months or more at the time they lodge a
permanent residency application. In the past de facto couples had to have lived
together in genuine relationship for two years to qualify for residency. - AFP
