KUCHING: The month-long New Zealand food fair held in August at Ristorante
Beccari, Merdeka Palace & Suites Hotel was considered a success by its
organisers as it had achieved its objective of raising funds for local
charitable organisations.
The charitable organisations which benefited from the fund-raising project were
the Sarawak Thalassaemia Society, Sarawak Children's Cancer Society, Kidney
Dialysis Centre, Lion's Nursing Home and the School for the Mentally Retarded
Children (Perkata).
These organisations received RM3,000 each from the proceeds of ticket sales for
the food fair.
Malaysia New Zealand Business Council chairman Alex Ting, on behalf of the food
fair organising committee, presented the cheques to the representatives of these
organisations at Restaurant Buckaroo yesterday.
Ting, who is one of the organisers of the event, said that due to the success of
the food fair, the council would look into the possibility of turning the event
into an annual affair.
Merdeka Palace Hotel & Suites general manager Edward Holloway said that during
the food fair, which was held every Thursday night in August, no fewer than 100
people would turn up for it.
"It was a win-win situation for everybody as the charities received donations
and the people contributing to the charities got to enjoy excellent New Zealand
dishes in the process," he said.
