KUCHING - Minister of Tourism Dato Seri Abang Johari Tun Openg is leading a 50-member Tourism Promotion cum Trade Mission to New Zealand from 28 September to 7 October. Among them are STB executive director Aloysius Dris, Malaysian Consul to New Zealand Datuk Amin Satem, Senadin State Assemblyman Lee Kim Shin and Malaysian NZ Business Council (Sarawak chapter) chairman Alex Ting.

In New Zealand they are expected to call on the Lord Mayor of Auckland John Bank for a meeting, meet the GM of Royal NZ Yacht Squadron Craig Peploe, and a visit to America Cup Village, Air NZ director and his top officials.

The meeting with the NZ Yacht Squadron has a possible bearing with the proposed International Borneo Yacht race to be held in Miri. The STB and the Ministry of Tourism are keen to harness NZ's help in making the local yacht race a success, able to attract international participants.

In Wellington, Abang Johari and entourage will call on the Mayor, Kerry Prendergast, to discuss possible trade linkages and enhance friendship between the two countries, reciprocating a recent successful visit by a NZ delegation to Malaysia (including Sarawak). They are also expected to attend a business seminar to be attended also by members of the Wellington City Council.

In Christchurch the delegation is expected to meet with Mayor Gary Moore, guided tour of University of Canterbury, then on to Lincoln University for an eco-tourism briefing.
